Billing & Insurance

Please take a moment to review this page to help you understand the insurance cover and billing procedures at Intus.

We understand how confusing healthcare insurance and medical billing can be. It’s really important that you are fully aware of the costs involved. We believe in transparency of fees and want to help make the process as simple as possible.

The following information relates to all consultations, endoscopy and other services, excluding surgery.

Southern Cross Insurance

Intus is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross Health Insurance for consultations and some procedures. If you are a Southern Cross member, Intus will apply for funding for you for contracted services, we just need your Southern Cross membership number.

Depending on the type of cover you have with Southern Cross, there may be a shortfall in costs covered. You will be responsible for covering this portion of fees on the day, at the conclusion of your appointment.

If the service you are receiving is not a contracted service, you will need to pay the associated fees at the conclusion of your appointment and forward your receipt to Southern Cross for their consideration of reimbursement.

For all other insurance companies

If you have health insurance cover it is your responsibility to seek prior approval from your provider. We strongly recommend you speak to your insurer about cover prior to your appointment with us.

You will still need to pay at the conclusion of your appointment and then forward your receipt on to your insurance company for their consideration of reimbursement. You are responsible for any outstanding balance if the procedure is not fully covered by insurance or ACC.

For patients without private health insurance

Payment is required at the conclusion of your appointment. Payment is the responsibility of the individual receiving services.

Please note we do not accept American Express.

Surgical procedures undertaken at a Private Hospital

At the time of your specialist consultation, you will be provided with your surgeon’s approximate costs. You will be given the anaesthetist and hospital phone numbers so you can obtain their approximate costs for the procedure as well.

If your treatment/surgery is covered by insurance, you will need to arrange prior approval from your insurance company. Please notify Intus of your pre-approval number prior to your procedure.

After your surgical procedure you will receive three separate invoices, from your surgeon, anaesthetist and hospital. We request that you forward all invoices directly to your insurance company for payment.

Intus does not liaise directly with insurance companies regarding claims.

Surgical procedures undertaken at Intus Dunedin

If you are having surgery at Inus Dunedin, you will receive approximate costs for the full cost of the surgery, which will include the surgeon, hospital, and anaesthetist costs.

Following your surgery, Intus will send you one invoice that includes all costs. This should be forwarded directly to your insurance company for payment.

Intus does not liaise directly with insurance companies regarding claims.
