Payment Information
Please take a moment to review this page to help you understand the insurance cover and billing procedures at Intus.
We understand how confusing healthcare insurance and medical billing can be. It’s important that you are fully aware of the costs involved. We believe in fee transparency and aim to make the process as simple as possible.
The following information relates to all consultations, endoscopy, and other services, excluding surgery.

Private Health Insurance Payment Information

Southern Cross Insurance
Intus is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross Health Insurance for consultations and some procedures. If you are a Southern Cross member, Intus will apply for funding for you for contracted services. We just need your Southern Cross membership number. Depending on the type of cover you have with Southern Cross, there may be a shortfall in costs covered. You will be responsible for covering this portion of fees on the day, at the conclusion of your appointment.

For all other insurance companies
If you have health insurance cover, it is your responsibility to seek prior approval from your provider. We strongly recommend you speak to your insurer about cover before your appointment with us. You will still need to pay at the conclusion of your appointment and then forward your receipt to your insurance company for their consideration of reimbursement. You are responsible for any outstanding balance if the procedure is not fully covered by insurance or ACC.

For patients without private health insurance
Payment is required at the conclusion of your appointment. Payment is the responsibility of the individual receiving services. Please note we do not accept American Express.

Surgical procedures undertaken at a Private Hospital
Christchurch
At the time of your specialist consultation, you will be provided with your surgeon’s approximate costs. You will also be given the anaesthetist and hospital phone numbers so you can obtain their approximate costs for the procedure.
Dunedin
Your surgeon will advise the Intus administration team of their fee for the procedure. Intus will then contact Mercy Hospital with details of the planned surgery, and the Mercy hospital will supply estimated costs for both hospital and anaesthetist services. Once all information is received, Intus will prepare a full estimate combining the surgeon, hospital, and anaesthetist fees. This estimate will be sent to you so that you can obtain insurance pre-approval prior to your procedure.
If your treatment or surgery is covered by insurance, you will need to obtain prior approval from your insurance company. Please notify Intus of your pre-approval number before your procedure.
After your surgical procedure, you will receive three separate invoices - from your surgeon, anaesthetist, and hospital. We request that you forward all invoices directly to your insurance company for payment.
Please note: Intus does not liaise directly with insurance companies regarding claims.
Intus Payment Information

Surgical procedures undertaken at Intus Dunedin
If you are having surgery at Intus Dunedin, you will receive an estimate covering the full cost of your procedure, including surgeon, hospital, and anaesthetist fees. After your surgery, Intus will send you a single invoice that includes all of these costs. This invoice should be forwarded directly to your insurance company for payment. Please note that Intus does not liaise directly with insurance companies regarding claims. For patients who are fully funding their own surgery (i.e. not using insurance), payment of the full estimated cost is required at least three working days prior to the procedure.

Queenstown, Invercargill and Cromwell Patients
Please note that at our facilities in these locations, we are unable to take payment on the day. Instead, you will be sent an invoice for the services received and you will be able to pay via online banking or over the phone with your Credit Card.
