Anaesthetics

Anaesthesia is a vital part of your surgical care. It involves the use of medications to keep you comfortable, pain-free, and safe during procedures.

Your Safety and Comfort During Surgery

Anaesthetists are highly trained doctors who specialise in delivering anaesthesia for operations and procedures. They play a central role in your surgical experience, working closely with your surgeon and the wider team to ensure everything goes smoothly. Their role goes beyond putting you to sleep, they are responsible for your wellbeing and comfort before, during and after your procedure.

What to Expect at Intus

Before Your Surgery

Our nurses will carry out a thorough pre-operative assessment to gather important information for the anaesthetist. This is also an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have. The anaesthetist will then consider your health, history, and the type of procedure to decide on the most appropriate form of anaesthesia for you.

During Your Surgery

Your anaesthetist stays with you throughout the procedure. They administer the anaesthetic and monitor your vital signs continuously, ensuring your safety and comfort from start to finish. They also manage your pain relief strategy, so you’re well supported immediately after surgery.

After Your Procedure

Your anaesthetist continues to care for you after the operation, making sure you’re recovering safely as the anaesthetic wears off. Whether you're heading home or staying overnight, they ensure you are as comfortable as possible and your pain is well managed.
