Endoscopy
At Intus Specialist Health Care, we provide trusted endoscopy services across Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Wānaka, supporting patients with timely access to expert-led care closer to home. Our specialist team provides colonoscopy and gastroscopy services focused on accurate diagnosis, early detection and a clear path forward.
Endoscopy is a type of procedure, such as colonoscopy and gastroscopy, that allow our Intus specialists to examine the digestive tract using a thin, flexible camera. These investigations help identify the cause of symptoms, detect conditions early, and guide the most appropriate treatment plan.
Timely Care, Guided by Specialists
All referrals are carefully reviewed ensuring patients are prioritised appropriately. Urgent cases, particularly patients with new or concerning symptoms, will be offered the next available appointment.
When choosing Intus, patients are offered flexibility around endoscopist, location and timing, so care can be arranged in a way that works best for them. If an earlier appointment is available with another specialist or at a different clinic, we will offer this option to ensure timely care remains the priority.
If you choose to self-refer and a different investigation would be more appropriate, our team will guide you towards the right next step. Our focus is always on ensuring you receive the most suitable care for your individual situation.
For some patients, ongoing monitoring may be recommended. Where surveillance is required, we offer structured follow-up and recall processes to ensure nothing is missed and your care continues seamlessly over time.
Colonoscopy at Intus
A colonoscopy examines the large intestine (colon) and is commonly used to investigate symptoms such as changes in bowel habits, bleeding, or ongoing abdominal discomfort. It also plays an important role in bowel cancer screening and early detection.
This procedure allows specialists to both identify and, in some cases, treat issues during the same examination.
Gastroscopy at Intus
A gastroscopy examines the upper digestive tract, including the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine. It is often recommended for symptoms such as reflux, difficulty swallowing, nausea, or unexplained upper abdominal pain.
This investigation provides a clear view of the upper digestive system to help diagnose and guide treatment
When Further Investigation is Needed
Endoscopy is often the first step, but some conditions require additional testing to fully understand what’s happening.
Our team can guide you through further gastrointestinal investigations where appropriate, including:
High-resolution oesophageal manometry
These services help provide a more complete picture and support accurate, well-informed treatment decisions.
