Dr Sanford trained primarily in America and is dual certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Having been in public and private practice in Northern Michigan for over thirty years, Kurt relocated to New Zealand with his family six years ago. After a couple of years working at Christchurch Hospital, Kurt joined Intus four years ago and currently serves the Lakes region from our clinics in Queenstown and Wānaka.
Kurt is accustomed to the variety of clinical challenges that gastroenterologists investigate and treat. He strives to keep the patient and their support system involved in decision making through education, respect and advising current treatment protocols for oesophageal, stomach, small intestinal, and colonic disorders – the so called GI luminal diseases. He also has significant expertise in liver, pancreatic and associated diseases.
He has always been active in community groups, medical advisory groups and has served on many charity and professional boards in America and now New Zealand. He believes in strong and active participation from a community level with each resident contributing to the well-being of all members including preparedness for all aspects of community health, safety and natural disasters. He has been heavily involved in medical student and young physician training and has received a number of teaching recognition awards.
