Deborah Wright is a General and Colorectal Surgeon in Dunedin. Deborah studied in the UK, before moving to New Zealand in 2003 where she completed her surgical training, a PhD in bowel cancer, and subspecialty training in Auckland and the UK. Deborah joined Intus in 2020 and has been the driving force behind the development of Intus in Dunedin, bringing specialist care closer to the community.
At Intus, Deborah focuses on providing timely expert care and investigations. Her patient-centred approach involves careful listening, assessment, explanation and customised plans.
Deborah cares for people with abdominal conditions including hernias and gallstones, bowel conditions including diverticular disease and bowel cancer, and anorectal conditions including fissures, fistulas and haemorrhoids.
Deborah works at Dunedin Hospital and is an academic at the University of Otago involved in teaching and research. Her numerous recent publications include work on the management of post operative pain, colonoscopy outcomes, and diverticular disease. She is a specialty editor for the ANZ Journal of Surgery, and contributes her expertise to the Gut Cancer Foundation and Australasian GI Trials Group.
