Richard Perry is a highly experienced General and Colorectal Surgeon, providing specialist clinics in Christchurch, Queenstown, and Wanaka.
Richard has advanced surgical care in New Zealand, co-founding Oxford Clinic Day Hospital in 1996, establishing Intus Specialist Health Care in 2004 and Intus Dunedin in 2023.
A pioneer of laparoscopic colorectal surgery, he performed NZ’s first laparoscopic colorectal resection in 1992, subsequently completing over a thousand operations for bowel cancer, diverticular and inflammatory bowel disease, prolapse and endometriosis.
With a lifelong focus on pelvic floor disorders and childbirth injuries, he is committed to improving women’s quality of life. Richardserved 9 years on Council of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, during which time he had responsibilities for surgical education, professional development and standards, and as vice-president.
An active researcher and author, Richard also had a key role in the development of the RACS Surgical Skills program and led eight missions to Myanmar to support surgical training in that country.
