Capsule Endoscopy
Capsule endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic test used to see the inside of the digestive tract. It is a particularly useful investigation of the small intestine.

What is involved in capsule endoscopy?
Capsule endoscopy involves swallowing a small, vitamin-sized capsule that contains a tiny wireless camera.
As it travels through the bowel the capsule takes continuous pictures of the intestinal lining that it transmits to a recorder that you wear on a sensor belt.
A capsule endoscopy may performed to investigate conditions including:
Iron deficiency anaemia
Small bowel tumours
The Examination
You will come to Intus to swallow the small capsule. This journey is typically complete within 24-72 hours, and the capsule is passed painlessly with the bowel motion.
Our team are experienced at conducting capsule endoscopy. They will be happy to answer any questions that you have about having a capsule endoscopy and whether it might be helpful in guiding your diagnosis or treatment.
