Surgery for Haemorrhoids

Targeted surgical treatment to relieve pain, bleeding, and discomfort caused by haemorrhoids - (also called piles) soft, sponge-like cushions of tissue just inside the bottom (anus).

Surgery may be recommended to treat haemorrhoids that are causing pain, bleeding, or discomfort and are not amenable to other treatment options such as haemorrhoidal banding

Several surgical techniques are available, depending on the type, size, and severity of the haemorrhoids, and your individual symptoms.

Surgical treatment may be recommended if:

  • haemorrhoids are large or persist despite non-surgical treatments

  • you experience frequent bleeding, pain, or prolapse

  • other treatments, have not been effective

  • complications such as ulceration develop

Your surgeon will help decide if surgery is appropriate and which method is most suitable.
